Deposizione e dischiusa della uova di tartaruga - Laying and hatching of turtles eggs

Dopo l’Oman e il sud-est degli Stati Uniti, Capo Verde è la terza riserva mondiale di tartarughe marine: ne ospita, infatti, cinque delle sette specie esistenti, in particolare gli esemplari di Caretta Caretta.  I maschi e le femmine di questa specie, fortemente minacciata dall’inquinamento marino, dalla riduzione degli habitat di nidificazione e da una caccia sconsiderata, sono ormai a rischio di estinzione nelle acque del Mediterraneo.  

A Boa Vista, numerose tartarughe si trovano nelle zone di riproduzione nei mesi estivi da giugno ad agosto, anche dopo migrazioni di migliaia di chilometri.

La dischiusa delle uova è uno spettacolo davvero unico e suggestivo, a cui si può assistere fino a metà ottobre.  Le visite guidate si svolgono in genere di notte, lungo le spiagge a sud e sud-est dell’isola. Benché dal 2002 la caccia alle tartarughe marine sia strettamente vietata tutto l’anno, troppo spesso questi animali non sono sufficientemente protetti e tutelati, e vengono catturati in grande quantità, anche per il loro consumo. 

Ecco perché l’osservazione delle tartarughe e la promozione di un turismo responsabile possono contribuire anche alla sopravvivenza di queste creature, diffondendone la conoscenza e l’importanza della loro preservazione. 

  

After Oman and south-eastern United States, Cape Verde  is the third largest reserve in the world of sea turtles: in fact, it hosts five of the seven existing species, especially Caretta Caretta specimens.

Males and females of this species, seriously threatened by marine pollution, by the reduction of nesting habitat and by a reckless hunting, are now threatened with extincion in the Mediterranean sea. 

In Boa Vista, during the summer months from June to August, you can find many turtles in the spawning areas, even after a thousand miles migration.

Hatching of eggs is a unique and fascinating sight, which is visible until mid-October. Tours are generally held at night, along Boa Vista south and south eastern beaches.

Although since 2002 the hunting of sea turtles is strictly forbidden throughout the year, too often these animals are not sufficiently protected and preserved, and they are massively captured, in order to be eaten too. That is why the observation of turtles and the promotion of a responsible tourism can also contribute to their survival, spreading the knowledge and the importance of their preservation.

Nature in Boavista - Natura a Boavista

In Boavista you can touch nature, deserts, endless beaches and oases. Boavista is an island apart, unspoiled and wild, genuine and without frill. Nature is the undisputed queen.
Each year, the island coasts are populated by thousands of turtles Caretta Caretta. Look the hatching of eggs is a unique spectacle, when from a single nest, hundreds of small turtles run to earn the sea.
In Cabo Santa Maria you can spot the splendid specimens of sea eagle or Fregata Magnificens.
In the see of Boa Vista is easy to see harmless nurse sharks that rest. If you love diving, you cannot give up diving around the Ilheu, the wall of Atlantis and at Ponta do Sol to hunt over 100 sunken shipwrecks.
For people who are looking for a relaxing holiday you cannot lose a catamaran trips in search of humpback whales and gentle whale shark. The best time to meet the whales is May, when they approach the shore so much to see them jump and hear them "sing" during diving.


A Boavista si è immersi nella natura, deserti, spiagge infinite e oasi. Boavista è un'isola a parte, incontaminata e selvaggia, genuina e senza fronzoli come i suoi abitanti. La natura è la regina incontrastata.
Ogni anno le coste dell'isola sono popolate da migliaia di tartarughe Caretta Caretta. Assistere alla schiusa delle uova è uno spettacolo unico, quando da un solo nido centinaia di piccoli esemplari corrono a guadagnarsi il mare.
A Cabo Santa Maria, nelle vicinanze del relitto, è possibile avvistare gli splendidi esemplari di aquila di mare o Fregata Magnificens.
Immergendosi nelle acque cristalline, è facile osservare innocui squali nutrici che si riposano. Se siete appassionati di diving, non sarà possibile rinunciare alle immersioni intorno all'Ilheu, al muro di Atlantide e a Ponta do Sol a caccia degli oltri 100 relitti sommersi che permettono incontri tanto rari quanto imprevisti.
Per i meno sportivi, sono irrinunciabili le gite in catamarano alla ricerca di balene megattere e del mansueto squalo balena. Per incontrare le megattere il periodo ideale è maggio, quando si avvicinano alla riva tanto da vederle saltare a occhio nudo e sentirle "cantare" durante le immersioni.
